Vat Savitri Puja is a Hindu fasting ritual observed by married women to pray for the well-being, longevity, and prosperity of their husbands. It is named after Savitri, the legendary wife known for her devotion and determination.

Vat Savitri Puja is observed on the Purnima (full moon day) of the Jyeshtha month, which typically falls in May or June of the Gregorian calendar

The puja commemorates the devotion of Savitri, who saved her husband's life from the clutches of Yama (the god of death) through her unwavering devotion and cleverness.

Married women observe a fast on this day and tie a ceremonial thread around a banyan tree (Vat Vriksha). They worship the tree, offer prayers to Goddess Savitri, and listen to or recite the story of Savitri and Satyavan.

The rituals include waking up early, taking a holy bath, wearing traditional attire, offering prayers to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Goddess Savitri, and tying a ceremonial thread around the banyan tree.
