Vat Savitri Puja, also known as Vat Purnima Vrat, is a significant Hindu ritual observed predominantly by married women in various parts of India.   3. Vrat (Fast): Married women observe a strict fast from sunrise to sunset. Some may refrain from consuming even water during this period.

  4. Banyan Tree (Vat Vriksha): The central element of the puja involves tying threads around the trunk of a banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis), which symbolizes longevity and the bond between husband and wife.

  5. Puja Rituals:

    • Women gather around the banyan tree and offer water, milk, honey, and flowers to the tree, seeking the blessings of Goddess Savitri.
    • They circumambulate the tree (pradakshina) and tie threads (mouli) around its trunk while chanting prayers and mantras.
  6. Storytelling: The legend of Savitri and Satyavan is narrated during the puja, emphasizing Savitri's devotion and her victory over Yama (the god of death) to save her husband.
