Steps and Procedure of Murti Vastra Daan Seva

  1. Preparation:

    • Choose a clean and auspicious day for the seva, preferably during a festival, auspicious occasion, or a specific day dedicated to the deity (e.g., Tuesday for Hanuman, Thursday for Vishnu).
    • Take a bath and wear clean clothes to maintain purity.
    • Purchase or prepare new clothes for the deity. These can include traditional garments like sarees, dhotis, or any specific attire suitable for the deity.
  2. Selecting the Temple:

    • Include other offerings such as flowers, fruits, sweets, and incense sticks along with the clothes.
  4. Invoking the Deity:

    • Begin by invoking Lord Ganesha with a prayer or mantra to remove obstacles. You can use the mantra "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah."
    • Meditate on the deity to whom you are offering the clothes, visualizing their divine form and attributes.
  5. Main Rituals:

    • Sankalpa (Resolution): Take a vow (sankalpa) to perform the Murti Vastra Daan Seva for the well-being and prosperity of your family and community.
    • Offering Clothes: Place the clothes in front of the deity or hand them over to the temple priest.
    • Abhishekam (Bathing): If allowed, participate in the ritual bathing (abhishekam) of the deity with water, milk, honey, and other sacred substances.
    • Alankaram (Adorning): If possible, assist or watch the priest adorn the deity with the new clothes. This is a beautiful and fulfilling part of the seva.
    • Arati (Worship): Participate in the arati (worship with light) performed for the deity. Sing devotional songs or hymns and wave the lighted lamp in a circular motion in front of the deity.
  6. Prayers and Blessings:

    • Offer prayers for your family’s health, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
    • Seek the blessings of the deity for fulfilling your wishes and removing any obstacles in your life.
