Tulsi Vivah Rituals

The marriage of Lord Krishna and Tulsi follows traditional Hindu wedding customs and can be performed in temples or homes. The key rituals are as follows:

1. Fasting: The observance of a fast is essential on the day of Tulsi Vivah. Devotees abstain from food until the evening, when the main rituals commence.

4. Adorning the Bride: The Tulsi plant is dressed as a radiant Indian bride, donning a brightly colored saree and adorned with jewelry. Turmeric and Vermilion powder are applied to enhance her beauty.

5. Preparing the Groom: The idol of Lord Vishnu, often represented as a Shaligram stone or brass idol, is draped in a traditional dhoti to prepare him for the wedding.

6. Tying the Knot: The actual ceremony commences with the tying of a sacred thread, symbolizing the union of Tulsi and Lord Vishnu. This thread binds their destinies together.

7. Offering Prayers: Devotees shower the divine couple with offerings of rice and Vermilion powder, signifying their blessings and good wishes.

8. Bhog Distribution:

Regional Variations in Tulsi Vivah Celebration

Tulsi Vivah is celebrated in India in accordance with a number of regional traditions and customs. In the western Indian province of Saurashtra, there are lavish festivals. As part of the celebrations, the bride's temple and the groom's temple exchange wedding cards. The 'baraat,' or wedding procession, travels from the Lord Vishnu shrine to the Tulsi Ma temple. The people sing bhajans to welcome the baraat, and a Tulsi aarti closes the festivities.

Couples who are unable to conceive or who do not have daughters usually pay the charges involved with the Tulsi Vivah rite in various locations. It is believed that Kanyadaan's adoption of Tulsi as his daughter will grant the couple fertility and parental benefits.

Tulsi Vivah Story

The mythology of Tulsi Vivah has its roots in Tulsi's previous life. She used to go by the name Vrinda and was married to the demon king Jalandhar, who was a fervent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Jalandhar, who received immortality from Brahma, grew powerful and became a threat to the gods, even defeating Lord Shiva.

Lord Vishnu heard the gods' pleas for help. He used deception to break Vrinda's chastity vow by posing as Jalandhar. As a result, Jalandhar became weaker, which ultimately led to his demise. Vrinda cursed Vishnu and changed him into the Shaligram, a black stone, after learning the truth about his acts. She was also cursed to become a Tulsi plant in the future. Eventually, Vrinda removed her curse . Eventually, in response to the pleas of the followers, Vrinda lifted her curse.
