Kharmas in 2023, looking into its mythical tales, astrological roots, and cultural practices. It breaks down the cosmic dance that is impacted by the Sun's entry into Sagittarius and Pisces, illuminating the dos and don'ts, customs, and beliefs related to this astronomical event.

Kharmas 2023 Date and Time

The Sun's passage into Sagittarius or Pisces heralds the advent of Kharmas, a celestial phenomena that astrology lovers and seekers of cosmic alignment anxiously anticipate. The cosmic dance begins on December 16, 2023, and it will continue under mysterious influence until January 15, 2024, which is Makar Sankranti. Based on astrological concepts that are entwined with mythological stories and cultural customs, this era has a mystical meaning.

Kharmas Significance

Two times a year, Kharmas is brought about by the Sun's movements across the Zodiac, particularly when it reaches the signs of Sagittarius and Pisces, which are controlled by Jupiter. The Sun's transit through a single zodiac sign is influenced for thirty days by this astronomical alignment, also called Dhanu Sankranti. But at this time, Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, is less effective due to the strong influence of the Sun, making fortunate endeavors difficult and unlucky.

                                                      Kharmas's Mythological Origins

Legends from antiquity enthrall us in a compelling story of Kharmas, based on the chariot of the Sun God's celestial trip. A moment of cosmic genius came to pass as the horses driving the chariot grew tired. The Sun God changed his path to a riverside because he felt sorry for his horses. The horses found relief there, when they drank from the running rivers. In a cosmic detour, the horses were momentarily changed by two donkeys called Khars, which made it possible for them to finish the cosmic circuit. The name "Khar Maas," which denotes the slow and waning rate of the Sun's intensity during the month of Pausha, was born out of this act of compassion.

                                                          Malamas and Sagittarius Sankranti

Malamas, another unlucky month, coincides with the Sun's Sagittarius Sankranti. Because of its weaker position in signs ruled by Jupiter, the Sun is seen unfavorably when it is in Sagittarius and Pisces. Twice a year, during Dhanu Sankranti (December 16–January 15) and Pisces Sankranti (March 14–April 13), the cosmic ballet is revealed. Significant life events like marriages, ear piercings, housewarmings, and other auspicious actions are shadowed by this astrological alignment, which calls for a period of penitent restraint.

  • Marriage Caution: During Kharmas, marriage rituals and engagements are prohibited since it is thought that they will cause marital strife.
  • Homebound Hesitancy: Moving to a new place is not advised during Kharmas since it is believed to have a negative impact on the unity within the family.
  • Business Beware: It is advised against starting a new company during Kharmas due to the perception that difficulties will increase and success will become elusive.
  • Precious Taboos: During this astrologically sensitive time, rituals involving sacred threads, head shaving, and ear piercing should be postponed.

t is important to recognize that these deeply ingrained Hindu traditions, rituals, and beliefs can differ among individuals and communities.Followers of Kharmas maneuver through a subtle cosmic symphony while adhering to certain dos and don'ts:

  • Solar Strengthening: It is advised to offer Arghya to the Sun God and chant certain mantras, such as the holy Aditya Hridaya Stotra, in order to strengthen the Sun in one's horoscope.
  • Tree of Tranquility: It is considered extremely fortunate to worship the peepal tree during Kharmas since it is said that gods live in its branches, signifying the removal of problems.
  • Tulsi Tributes: It is thought to be an auspicious ritual that promotes a link with heavenly energy to light a lamp beneath the Tulsi plant and provide Tulsi water during Kharmas.
  • Marital Moratorium: It is customary to forgo marriage and engagement rites during Kharmas in order to ensure a peaceful and contented marriage.
  • Auspicious Abstinence: During this celestial dance, it is forbidden to perform some important rituals, such as the sacred thread ceremony, Griha Pravesh (housewarming), Lagna (marriage), Mundan (head shaving), and others.
  • Business Plan: Starting a business during Kharmas carries a warning because of increased expenses and possible debt accumulation.
