Guide to Bhumi Pujan Vidhi

-Akanksha Singh

An auspicious ceremony known as Bhumi Pujan Vidhi is performed before to new construction in order to bless Mother Earth and other deities with prosperity. To maintain equilibrium, Bhoomi Devi and Panchabhutas are essential. Preferably, a married man leads the household, and the wife is urged to join him. Vastu Shastra associates certain months and dates as auspicious. The foundation stone is laid, Lord Ganesh is invoked, Kalash and Vastu Purusha are worshipped, and a place is chosen as part of the rituals. Lucky dates are influenced by lunar constellations.

Guide to Bhumi Pujan Vidhi for New Constructions

Obtaining a plot of land is an important first step. When you start building, think about implementing the ancient practice of Bhumi Pujan Vidhi. It is thought that this holy event, which honours Mother Earth (Bhumi Devi) and other deities, will bless the land and the upcoming construction with prosperity, tranquillity, and heavenly blessings.

The Gods Associated with Bhumi Pujan Vidhi

The main character of Bhumi Pujan Vidhi is Bhoomi Devi, who stands in for the nourishing and life-giving elements of the planet. The Panchabhutas, which include Agni (fire), Bhoomi (earth), Vayu (air), Jal (water), and Akash (space), as well as Vastu Purusha, the goddess of buildings, are also essential components of the ceremony. Maintaining the proper balance between these components is essential to raising the standard of living in the built space.

Significance of Bhumi Poojan for New House

Commencing any new venture, including construction, with divine blessings is considered auspicious. Bhumi Pujan Vidhi is thought to dispel negativity associated with the land and ensure a smooth and hassle-free completion of the construction. The goddess Bhumi Devi guarantees better yields for agricultural land and ensures the happiness and prosperity of residents in the case of a house or building.

Who Should Perform the Bhumi Pujan Vidhi?

The head of the family, preferably a married man, is the primary participant in the Bhoomi Pujan Vidhi. The involvement of the wife is encouraged in this sacred ritual. An experienced priest, well-versed in the intricacies of Bhoomi Pujan Vidhi, is essential to guide the participants through the ritual, including determining the auspicious time based on the Hindu calendar.

Auspicious Time to Perform Bhumi Pujan Vidhi

It's crucial to distinguish between the auspicious time for Bhoomi Pujan Vidhi and the commencement of construction. According to Vastu Shastra, favorable months for laying the foundation stone are Baishakh, Margshish, Paush, and Phalgun. Construction, on the other hand, is considered inauspicious between Ashadha Shukla and Kartik Shukla.

Choosing the Perfect Spot: After taking a bath, the sacred area is selected, cleaned, and offered with Gangajal offerings.

Invocation of Lord Ganesh: The ceremony starts with a prayer to Lord Ganpati asking for blessings and for the removal of impediments.

Worship of Kalash and the Silver Snake: The silver snake and Kalash, which stand for wealth and longevity, are revered with a variety of offerings.

Invocation of Vastu Purusha and Bhoomi Devi: These are the goddesses that are called upon to ensure harmony and drive out negativity from the construction site.

Laying of the Foundation Stone (Shilanyas): In accordance with Vastu Shastra, the ceremony comes to a close with the laying of the foundation stone.

Things to Avoid on Bhoomi Pooja There are a few things to keep in mind when doing the practice, like avoiding Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesdays. It is also recommended to avoid doing Bhoomi Pooja on certain teeth, namely the fourth, ninth, and fourteenth molars. If a lady in the home is pregnant, construction shouldn't start.

Effects of Lunar Constellations on Bhumi Pooja

Lunar constellations are taken into consideration while determining auspicious dates. Days that come within the range of 1–7 or 19–28 are unlucky, whereas those that fall within the range of 8–18 are extremely fortunate.

Other Vastu Guidelines

It is advised to adhere to Vastu precepts prior to Bhoomi Pujan Vidhi, such as building a boundary wall with the southwest side taller, planting trees and keeping a cow and calf on the property.

How to Perform Bhumi Poojan

Offering prayers to Mother Earth and requesting permission for building or farming operations are part of the Bhoomi Poojan ritual. During this ceremony, the foundation stone is laid, marking the official start of the project. The procedure entails customs such as performing Ganesh Puja, honouring Kalash, and setting the foundation stone.
