एक प्रसिद्ध कथा के अनुसार, जब महर्षि वेदव्यास ने महाभारत की रचना करने का निश्चय किया, तो उन्होंने भगवान गणेश से अनुरोध किया कि वे इसे लिखने में उनकी सहायता करें। गणेश जी ने यह शर्त रखी कि यदि वे एक बार लिखना शुरू करेंगे, तो वे बिना रुके लिखते रहेंगे। इस पर वेदव्यास जी ने भी एक शर्त रखी कि गणेश जी को तभी लिखना होगा जब वे पूरी तरह से श्लोक का अर्थ समझ लें।

वेदव्यास जी ने अत्यंत गूढ़ और जटिल श्लोकों का उच्चारण किया, जिन्हें समझने में गणेश जी को कुछ क्षणों का समय लगता था। इस दौरान उनकी लेखनी टूट गई। महाभारत का लेखन बीच में न रुके, इसलिए उन्होंने तुरंत अपने एक दांत को तोड़कर कलम के रूप में उपयोग किया और ग्रंथ का लेखन पूरा किया। इस घटना के कारण ही उन्हें "एकदंत" कहा जाता है।

परशुराम जी से जुड़ी कथा

एक अन्य कथा के अनुसार, भगवान परशुराम शिव जी के परम भक्त थे। जब वे शिवजी से मिलने कैलाश पर्वत पहुंचे, तो भगवान गणेश ने उन्हें रोका क्योंकि शिव जी ध्यानमग्न थे। यह देखकर परशुराम जी क्रोधित हो गए और उन्होंने अपने फरसे से गणेश जी पर प्रहार कर दिया।

यह फरसा स्वयं भगवान शिव द्वारा परशुराम जी को दिया गया था, इसलिए गणेश जी ने उसका सम्मान करते हुए प्रहार का सामना किया, जिससे उनका एक दांत टूट गया। इस घटना के कारण भी गणेश जी "एकदंत" कहलाए।

गणेश जी का संदेश

भगवान गणेश के टूते हुए दांत की कथा हमें यह सिखाती है कि ज्ञान और धर्म के कार्य में किसी भी प्रकार के बलिदान से पीछे नहीं हटना चाहिए। उन्होंने अपने दांत का बलिदान देकर यह सिद्ध किया कि जब लक्ष्य बड़ा हो, तो व्यक्तिगत हानि की चिंता किए बिना आगे बढ़ना चाहिए।

भगवान गणेश की मूर्ति में उनका टूटा हुआ दांत यह भी दर्शाता है कि हर चीज में पूर्णता की आवश्यकता नहीं होती। उनकी यह विशेषता हमें सिखाती है कि जीवन में अपूर्णता को स्वीकार कर आगे बढ़ना चाहिए और अपनी बुद्धि और धैर्य से सभी बाधाओं को पार करना चाहिए।

इस प्रकार, गणेश जी के एक दांत के टूटने की कथा केवल एक पौराणिक प्रसंग नहीं है, बल्कि यह हमें जीवन जीने की महत्वपूर्ण शिक्षा भी देती है।
