Kal Bhairav Puja, observed on the eighth lunar day in the first two days of the Krishna paksha, involves waking up early, cleansing, and decorating the pooja room with Kal Bhairav's idol. Aarti, Jalabhishek, and offerings like fruits and mustard oil are essential. Following Vastu principles, the sacred area should be clutter-free, facing east, and the deity placed on a raised platform. Kal Bhairav Jayanti, celebrated monthly, holds special significance on Tuesdays or Sundays.
Kal Bhairav Puja Vidhi and Vastu
On the day of Kal Bhairav Puja, wake up at the auspicious Brahma Muhurta, the early morning hours, and take a cleansing bath. After that, make sure the pooja room is tidy and clean. You can decorate it with an idol or portrait of Kaal Bhairav and, if you'd like, additional holy figures like Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. Light a lamp and incense to illuminate the sacred area, and present sincere sacrifices to the deity. During the evening, a four-faced mustard oil lamp can add a mystical glow to the ambiance.
To call upon Kal Bhairav's blessings, do the profound act of Aarti by reciting the Kalabhairavashtakam or other pertinent mantras. Follow the guidelines for the pooja and carry out the ceremonial Jalabhishek, which involves pouring water over the Shivling. Offer the deity milk, curd, fruits, flowers, panchamrit, coconut, red sandalwood, belpatra, panchamrit, and mustard oil in addition to the customary offerings of black lentils (urad dal). During the Kal Bhairav Puja, arrange the sacred area according to the principles of Vastu, making sure it is free of clutter, facing east when in worship, and placing the god on a raised platform.
